Here’s the story:
Thirty-nine years ago, Billy Kidd, Steamboat’s Director of Skiing and Larry Mahan, six-time All-Round World Champion cowboy started talking. They decided to invite a few star Pro Rodeo cowboys to Steamboat for a day of skiing.
This day of skiing was so much fun it turned into a competition that has become the most popular event of the season.
Planned annually to coincide with the National Western Stock Show in Denver, the Cowboy Downhill ropes 100 of the best professional rodeo cowboys into competing – on the slopes. This unique ski rodeo is sponsored by Bud Light and takes place at 1:30pm on January 21, 2013 on Stampede.
