Author and photographer Kelly Lynch wrote an article in New Zealand Life & Leisure Magazine entitled: Destination/Colorado. In this article, she mentions F.M. Light & Sons:
I’m delighted to recognize a shop from my hotel-room photograph; FM Light & Sons, Outfitting the West since 1905, is the town’s oldest store. It’s remained in the family since then and is now owned by Ty and Del Lockhart, fourth-generation Light descendents who enthusiastically fit out modernday cowboys, gals and kids in Stetson hats, checkered shirts and boots.
Who would have thought there were so many variations on the theme of cowboy boots? Four shelves are dedicated to baby and teen-sized boots. Stars cut out from a hot-pink pair flash coloured lights and fake leopard print trims others. There are boots for every occasion; a red-and-black pair decorated with clubs, hearts and spades is obviously ideal for poker nights.
Women’s knee-high styles made of soft dark leather and embroidered with flowers retail for $US600. Outside on the main street our toddler Joe rides Lightning, FM Light & Sons’ life-sized fibreglass horse.
